The Green Machine

What is a green bus?  We found out on December 8th.

Before school on Dec 8th,  the ECC bundled up in our winter gear and headed out to the bus loop, where the Green Bus was waiting for us.

The bus was not the color green, but a more efficient bus powered by propane instead of diesel.   We learned that this is more efficient because 90% of the propane used in produced in the US and the exhaust from the bus is water vapor instead of harmful greenhouse gases.

  1. The Green Bus was Very interesting. It was a fun new thing to do in the earth care club. The green bus run smoother then our regular school busses. During the ride the bus broke down. Luckily a bus at Willard was ready to pick us up right away. Riding the green bus was fun.

  2. I thought it was fun to go on to the green bus. It was less loud than the regular bus. It was also cool that it had a blue stripe on the bottom of the bus. It also had a lot smoother ride than a diesel bus. Also it was good that it was propane powered because propane is man made.

  4. I thought the green bus was great! It was so quiet! The bus ride was supposed to be 20 minutes long, but half way down Plainfield Road, the bus shut down! It turned out that it was only five minutes long. It was still very interesting because the green bus runs only on propane and has water vapor as exhaust, that means that only water is released into the air and no pollution is put into the air by the green bus!

  5. I loved that the bus was so quiet because on normal buses you can't hear yourself think. Even when the bus was stopped it was quiet except for all the talking (not that I'm complaining). I thought it was cool that they had air conditioners that kept the bus cool. Also it was cool that they had video cameras on the bus. It made me feel like i was in a very electronically developed future. I loved riding the green bus.
    P.S. I love Stone Leaf's pictures!

  6. A green bus is a bus powered by clean burning propane autogas. The earth care club went on one!. It was really cool because it was quieter than a normal bus and it ran smother. The green machine was also new; that might of been why it ran smother. But it sill was really fun.

  7. The members of the earth care club had a great time on the green bus. The green bus is green because it runs on propane not diesel. The bus ran very smoothly until... It broke down on Plainfield Road!!! The Earth Care Club waited very patiently for a bus that was at Willard school just incase. We'll the students were waiting there principal Mrs.Fernandas talked to them and answered some questions from the students. Now because Mrs. Fernandas didn't know all the answers she had some help from the designer of the bus!!

  8. I think the green bus trip was very informative and fun. I learned that the exhaust from the propane, the fuel that the green bus uses, is only water vapor, where as the exhaust from the regular diesel buses is harmful greenhouse gases. Also, the ride was a lot smoother and quieter than the regular diesel buses. I think it was cool that there was a window glaze that makes you able to see out but you cannot see in. There were also video cameras on the sides of the buses. I had a lot of fun on the green bus.

  9. Last thursday The Willard Earth Care Club went on a green bus. What made it green was it was propane powered, most buses now days are diesel powered. There were security cameras on the bus. The ride was more smoother then a ride on an normal bus. It had a window glaze so you can see out but not in. It was a 2013 model.

  10. When I got on the bus, I didn't know what the difference would be. All I saw were little black cameras and big air conditioners on the ceiling. The driver told us all about how the bus was running propane and didn't give as much pollution. Most school bus motors squeak and rumble on bumpy roads. But, this green school bus is much quieter, even on bumpy roads, I thought this amazing. After going around a few streets, we broke down on Spring Rd. I was getting hot waiting there for 15 minutes, after I stepped out of the bus and on the other, I noticed the motor was way louder than the Green Bus. When we got back to Willard School, I thought about the amazing trip. I will never forget this moment. It was most fun time I ever had.

  11. So cool! I like it because it has a non-boring design painted around the bus. I was blown away when I first saw it. I loved learning about recycling different kinds of plastics, and learning how they are good or bad to the environment.
